The title circumscribes the image, defining its material and visual allusion.

The photographs capture a microcosm of traces: the intricate paths and impressions left in the clayey mud of a river by insects and soil-dwelling organisms burrowing beneath or creeping across its surface.

A contrast emerges between the pristine surfaces, recalling the delicacy and preciousness of embroidery, and the mud, excavated and inscribed by creatures often perceived as unpleasant.

In the images, these references remain suspended within an ambiguous vision, at the threshold of abstraction.

Matter becomes a medium through which something beyond itself can be glimpsed, a membrane between the sensible world and a remote dimension where the indeterminate can emerge.
